Each year we get together with friends and family for a big July 4th party.  Since I am starting to plan for our annual 4th of July party, I started playing around with the invitation design. I am not sure which one I will use, but I decided to go ahead and share them all. These patriotic invitations are free for personal use.

If all of those creations are a bit overwhelming, remember the quickest way to give a simple yellow cake a patriotic touch is to top it with vanilla frosting or whipped cream and then decorate it with fresh blueberries and strawberries. Simple and tasty!

With Flag Day and Fourth of July holidays just around the corner, what better way to start the celebration than with a patriotic and healthy breakfast that feels like a treat?

What you need to make the Patriotic Parfaits

These breakfast parfait’s can be made a head of time and placed in the refrigerator so they are ready to go first thing in the morning. You will need:

• A drinking glass or parfait cup to serve your parfait’s in
• A thicker yogurt like Activia or a Greek style yogurt (I prefer vanilla for flavor and color)
• 1 cup of blueberries
• 1 cup of cut up strawberries or raspberries.

*Optional you will need a small American Flag Topper.

Start by placing a layer of yogurt in each cup, then a layer of strawberries, then yogurt, then blueberries, then yogurt and repeat. Make the top layer yogurt and add the American Flag for decoration. Serve to your family. Now that you have had a healthy start to the day you can take on the parades, picnics fireworks and food!

One of my favorite things to do to dress up any meal (that you can stick a tooth pick in) are Toppers. For the one shown in the parfait I used a paper punch, red paper and an American Flag Sticker, a tooth pick and a piece of tape.

You can use any paper punch or hand cut the paper you wish to use. Chose a sticker, an image from a magazine or printed image from your computer. Apply the image to the front of the paper toper and turn the paper over tape a toothpick to the back and if you wish to hide the toothpick add a little glue from a glue stick and attach another paper the same size as the front. My kids love finding them in their Toast, Apples, cheese cubes, sandwiches, cup cakes muffins and more. Simple easy and fun. Toppers make the ordinary worth celebrating. Make up some in your child’s favorite image, character or family holiday photo.
