How cute is this peace sign birthday cake made by my super talented friend Jess?? The peace sign and vibrant paint splatter shapes (which look like tie-dye to me) are done with fondant and would be the perfect centerpiece for a birthday party for a tween or teen girl.

Nail Polish Birthday Cake and Party Ideas

My super talented friends are at it again! My daughter is at a birthday party for her friend who is turning 12 and is nail polish crazy, like so many tweens and teens are. Cindy used traditional frosting colored with dark pink food coloring rather than fondant, but you could use either method.

She picked up a variety of fun emery boards, toe separators, clippers, and other nail polish accessories to use as part of the cake table decoration. You could use basic black and pink paper goods or go with a fun print, too.

Ideas for nail polish party activities:

Fill a jar with cotton balls and have the guests guess how many are in the jar. The winner gets a prize.
Buy a Nail Polish Pinata and fill it with candy or other little favors for the girls to share.
Let the girls give each other manicures and pedicures
Have a nail polish design contest – most creative, most professional, etc…

Party favors for a nail polish party are pretty easy to come up with, too. You can pick up inexpensive nail polish and manicure supplies at the dollar store, Target or Walmart. Or you can pick up some of these very cute and very affordable manicure sets (click on images for ordering information):

Pink Paris Poodles Party Theme

My daughter just celebrated her 12th birthday and this year she wanted a pink and black Paris inspired party theme (last year it was pink and black zebra). I wanted to keep it pretty simple since we were not having the party at our house, instead we had it at the very nice Splitsville Lanes, which was a HIT with these 12 and 13 year old girls.

The Invitations and Thank Yous

Since she was all about pink and black, I used my fashion doll (aka Barbie invitations) invitations as inspiration and just swapped out the art work so we had a pink and black invitation with the Eiffel Tower and a poodle on it. Below are both the invitation and the coordinating Thank You note. Click on the image to view and print them full size. I used a 24# cover stock to print them on so they were a little fancier.

The Party Food

Since we had the party at the bowling alley, I really didn’t have to do much with the food. They had a special going on at the bowling alley that day anyhow where pizzas were $5 each, so the girls ordered a soft drink and pizza, then bowled to their hearts content – with lots of talking, laughing, and silliness in between.

Rather than put together a cake, we opted for simple cupcakes in pink foil liners topped with white frosting and Pearlized White Jimmies. The pearlized jimmies were gorgeous! Then I used the invitation inspiration to create cupcake picks to go on top of each cupcake.

To display the cupcakes I borrowed a friend’s very cool 3-tiered stand and put a few cupcakes on each layer. Pardon the bad cell phone photos – of course, I forgot the good camera that day!

The Party Favors

With tween and teen girls, finding age appropriate Paris inspired party favors were a little trickier than I expected. Luckily, my super shopper daughter found these adorable Paris charms necklaces and bow bobby pins at Forever21.com that were extremely affordable. We packaged the goodies up in gold organza bags and arranged them around the base of the cupcake display. They looked great and every single girl at the party LOVED them.

This had to be one of the easiest birthday parties I have done yet, and since my daughter was involved in every step of the planning – including icing her own cupcakes – she really loved it!

iCarly Birthday Party Ideas and Supplies

During a recent snow day my girls set out on having an iCarly marathon day where all they did was watch the iCarly episodes they had recorded. The tech-savvy iCarly crew are always up to something and have creative solutions for the wackiest problems. Plus, they are just fun, which makes them perfect for a tween birthday party theme!

Here are some ideas to make your iCarly birthday party the best ever!

Transform any standard cake into a cool iCarly cake using an iCarly Mouse Cake Topper and bright blue, pink, purple, green and orange frosting.
Serve zany snacks such as spaghetti tacos, smoothies and a big bowl of mixed snacks (come up with your own crazy mix).
Record your voice saying “Random Dance” and play it randomly throughout the party.
Have a Karaoke machine set up with the tweens favorite songs and give out prizes for the best versions.
Set up a table with clay and/or recycled items for the guests to create their own sculptures, Spencer-style.
Create a webcast or take photos with the iCarly Message Camera – your guests’ photos will appear on one of twelve iCarly set backgrounds.
Favors can include anything wacky like iCarly notebooks, silly putty, funky mismatched socks (I like LittleMissMatched where nothing matches, but anything goes!) or inexpensive funky jewelry.

Something tells me that there will be a lot of Twilight and New Moon themed Halloween parties this fall. After all, Bella and Edward would make the perfect party guests! And I am also starting to hear of Twilight pre-movie viewing parties being planned too!

Zebra Striped Cake

My daughter had her zebra stripes themed birthday party this past weekend. It was truly a hit! My friend Jess made the cake and not only did the cake look amazing it tasted phenomenal too!

There were 4 layers of white cake (made from scratch!) and it was covered in from scratch buttercream frosting. The zebra stripes and pink ribbon were made from fondant. The cake was inspired by the zebra striped invitation I had created.

My sister-in-law had bought my daughter a really cute zebra striped gymnast from Gifts in Steel that she found at her local gym’s pro shop. The zebra gymnast made a great addition to the cake display.

We had the party at the gymnastics center she trains at. The party was tons of fun with plenty of active games, rockwall climbing, trampoline, and dancing. A lot of her friends picked up on the zebra theme and gave her some really cute gifts including a zebra bag with her initial on it from Justice Girls Clothing, zebra bookmarks, zebra earrings and more.

Zebra Themed Tween Party

My daughter is turning 11 this month so I have been planning her party. She has decided she really wants a zebra striped theme. Oh, and with a touch of pink, too. A friend of mine is going to make her a zebra striped cake and I will post the pictures here when the party is done, but here’s what I’m thinking so far. (update – see the pictures of the zebra striped cake)

I created the invitation – feel free to print it out for your own party. It is a black and white zebra stripe with plenty of pink accents.

Zebra Party Invitation

We are having her party at a local gymnastics school since many of the girls are gymnasts and all they want to do is flip, jump on trampolines and dance around any how. The girls will do open gym (supervised, unstructured time in the gym) for about 1.5 hours then we will have the party room.

I am getting solid hot pink table covers, black and white dessert plates, hot pink silverware, and using a zebra pinata as the centerpiece. Plus I am going to print out these adorable zebra and pink glamour water bottle wrappers for the water bottles.

In addition to her zebra cake, I think we are going to dip some Oreo cookies in white chocolate, dip some strawberries in white chocolate and add some zebra striped drizzles, and put out a few more bowls of muchies for the girls.

After doing cake, we will go back out into the gym and play “Pass the Present”. Basically you wrap a small gift in many layers of paper. Sit the party guests in a circle and start some music. The girls pass the present from person to person until the music stops. The person holding the gift when the music stops gets to take a layer of wrapping off. This continues until one person is left opening the final layer. I like to make the gift something to share so that everyone gets something.

For party favors I am thinking doing little pink take-out style containers with of some sort with nail polish, a zebra tissue pack, some hairbands, lip gloss, and little packs of mints. (click on images for purchase information)
